Metuchen Fire Department
Junior Firefighter Program
The Junior Firefighter Program has been in existence since 2001 and is aimed at developing future members of the fire service and good citizens. Junior Firefighters take part in drills to learn the basics of firefighting in preparation for the New Jersey Firefighter I certification. The department is looking for teenagers from ages 14 to 18 who are looking for an inside hands-on view of the fire service.
Aside from training and drills, Junior Firefighters ages 16 to 18 are eligible for the "ride-along" program which allows them to respond to alarms and observe actual firefighting operations. Few people have the opportunity to get such an up close and in depth look at one of America's most rewarding services.
To date eleven members have moved on to become certified firefighters and members of the Metuchen Volunteer Fire Department.
To request more information on the Junior Firefighter Program please visit our Recruitment Page or stop by the firehouse on Wednesday nights between 7:00 and 9:00pm.
